To find water-quality information for a Belfast property, start with its full postcode. NI Water's lookup provides local results, hardness information and dishwasher settings. Searching for the place where you will actually use the tap is more useful than choosing a report by the city name alone.
Start with the full postcode
Ask your host or hotel for the complete address before searching. If the lookup produces a zone name or report identifier, keep that beside the result. When comparing two places to stay, run a separate search for each postcode instead of carrying the first answer over to the second.
If the form cannot find the postcode, ask NI Water to identify the supply area. Avoid replacing a failed search with the first familiar Belfast place name in a report. Our Belfast tap-water guide provides general travel context; the utility lookup is the more specific starting point for an address.

Read the zone and reporting year
NI Water's report directory currently links its 2025 Drinking Water Quality Report. That is the year of monitoring covered by the document. Opening it during a later visit does not turn its figures into measurements taken on the day you arrive. NI Water report directory
The report says supply-zone boundaries can change when sources and operational requirements change. Its Belfast council section lists several zones wholly or partly within the council area, including Belfast Oldpark and Belfast Purdysburn. Where zones cross council boundaries, the council calculation uses whole-zone data rather than only results inside that council. A Belfast council summary therefore has a different geographic meaning from the zone attached to your postcode. Use the summary for background and retain the exact zone when reading detailed results. 2025 report, pages 4, 37 and 44
Write down the reporting year with any figure you save. Also preserve the parameter name and its unit. A hardness result answers a different question from a microbiological result; one number should not silently stand in for the whole report.

Use notices for today's questions
Northern Ireland's Drinking Water Inspectorate annually assesses NI Water and investigates breaches or compromised drinking-water standards. DAERA also publishes information about zone noncompliance and enforcement action. These records offer regulatory context when a report mentions a failure or improvement programme. Check the named zone and the document date before applying an entry to your accommodation. DAERA's public-water-supplies guidance
For an immediate concern, NI Water asks customers concerned about their supply to call Waterline on 0345 744 0088. It says that health-related problems can require advice to boil water or, in exceptional cases, avoid using it. Follow the specific instruction and affected area in a current notice. This guide does not establish that such a notice is in force in Belfast. Reporting a water-quality issue
NI Water also explains that lead can enter water from service pipes or domestic plumbing. A zone report cannot inspect those pipes for you. If the question concerns the building's plumbing, involve the property manager and ask NI Water what investigation is appropriate. Keep that question separate from finding the correct supply zone.
