What is a Nightjet couchette, and how is it different from a sleeper?

A couchette on ÖBB Nightjet gives you a berth, a place to lie down in a compartment that may be shared. A sleeper has a fully made bed and options for fewer occupants. Check both the accommodation category and whether you are buying a berth or a whole compartment. Couchette options · Sleeper options

Choose a berth or a whole compartment

ÖBB's standard couchette description lists compartments for four to six people. A blanket, sheets and pillow are provided. Private couchette compartments are also offered; check the permitted party size for the option you choose. Couchette accommodation

In a sleeper, Single is a compartment for one passenger; Double and Triple are for two or three. You can buy an individual berth in a Double or Triple and share with another passenger. Check the booking's occupancy before treating a sleeper as a private room. Sleeper occupancy

The sleeper page also distinguishes washbasin compartments from plus compartments with their own shower and toilet. Check that detail before choosing a bathroom arrangement. Sleeper facilities

Check the carriage generation

Nightjet has different carriage designs. In the new-generation trains, couchette comfort compartments have four fixed berths. The comfort and comfort plus sleepers have two fixed beds and can be booked for one or two people; both types have their own toilet and shower facilities. New-generation accommodation

New-generation trains also have Mini Cabins, compact individual sleeping pods. Check the booking photographs and exact compartment name before choosing; ÖBB uses "comfort" to identify newer carriage material. Recognising newer carriages

Pack for the shared night

Pack a small pouch with the things you want within reach after settling in. If you normally use a sleep mask, pack your own in that pouch. Keep larger bags stowed without blocking doors or passageways. ÖBB asks passengers to observe quiet time from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., with the main compartment lighting switched off. Sharing the carriage

Breakfast is included in both couchette and sleeper tickets. ÖBB lists a Viennese breakfast and mineral water for couchettes; sleepers include an à la carte breakfast with a hot drink, as well as a welcome drink and evening snack. Additional drinks and snacks can be bought on board. Food and drink

Choose a sleep mask for the journey

If you prefer to sleep with a mask, compare options before packing. Choose a fit you find comfortable; no particular model is recommended.
